How to Read a Stock Market Heatmap

What the colours and groups on a sector heatmap mean, and how to use it to see market breadth and sector rotation in seconds.

Updated 4 Oct 2026

A heatmap shows many stocks at once as coloured tiles. Each tile is a stock, the colour shows how much it moved, and tiles are grouped - by sector, market cap or index - so you can compare groups at a glance.

Reading the colours

  • Deep green: strong gain (for example above +5%).
  • Light green: small gain.
  • Grey: roughly unchanged.
  • Light to deep red: small to large losses.

What to look for

  • Breadth: is the whole map green, or are a few heavyweights carrying the index while most stocks fall?
  • Sector rotation: which sectors are consistently leading or lagging over several days?
  • Outliers: a single deep-red tile in a green sector often has stock-specific news worth checking.

Hindi mein saar

Heatmap mein har tile ek stock hai aur uska rang batata hai ki wo kitna chala - hara upar, laal neeche. Sectors ke hisaab se group hone se turant dikh jaata hai ki poora market chal raha hai ya kuch hi stocks, aur kaunsa sector aage hai.
